St. John of God lived in the 16 century. He was a Portuguese soldier who fought Our Lady and the English Martyrs in several wars. A meeting with St. John of Avila caused him to fill remorse for his way of life and he began helping the sick and the poor. He started the Order of the Brothers of Hospitalers. He is patron saint of the sick, nurses and hospitals.
St. Frances of Rome lived in the fifteenth century. She was happily married for forty years. She ministered to the sick and the poor including plague victims. She started a society for women who lived in the world and dedicated their lives to helping the poor, now called the Oblates St. Frances of Rome. She had visions and ecstasies.
