Last Wednesday there was a reading about Jonah.
God called him suddenly to become his agent and told him to go to another town and deliver a warning to the people there.
Jonah said no thank you; I will not make a fool of myself or put my life at risk. Get somebody else to do your dirty work for you.

God did not ask Abraham to go on a dangerous assignment but something even more difficult, to leave his country, home, family and friends and set out into the unknown, never to return.
This was asking a lot, asking for a very big change in the life of Abraham and his wife.
Abraham was so trusting towards God that he did as he was told.
They travelled a lot and had an interesting life with many surprises, twists and turns.
Abraham’s task was to trust in God no matter what
and that he did.
This is why we call him our father in faith.

God asked St. Paul to change his life too. He was a fervent Jew and Jesus asked him to become his agent, a fervent Christian and evangeliser. He too left his family and travelled in foreign lands most of his life.

God does not ask everybody for drastic changes in their life. But he does want all of us to do jobs for him.

Jonah did eventually go & reluctantly did what God told him to do. He was successful and the people of Nineveh benefited from his mission.

When God ask us to do something that is not our usual thing let us not hesitate too much. God wants us as his instrument but he delivers the success himself
